Caravan to the internet

Wi Fi for caravans

Well if like me you have the pleasure of having a caravan you will of course come accross the problem of connecting to the internet.
You could always tether this is basically sharing your mobile phones data connection with other devices eg TV, laptop, ipad, camera etc.. this can be done over wirelesss Wi-Fi, bluetooth or by a direct connection using a cable.

What I found was that connecting all these devices would quickly eat up my phones data.

Some caravan sites do offer wi-fi connections on an hourly, daily, weekly rates which can work out very expensive and is normally very slow as there normally many people using this facility.

I looked around for an alternative and found this the AirCard 790s from Netgear it uses the 4g mobile phone network. The great thing is it can Connect up to 15 WiFi enabled devices on the go, so the kids will be able to still keep in contact with friends on facebook, instagram, twitter etc...
Easy sharing with guest WiFi Support, last up to 11 hours of active use and upto 349 hours on standby.
The AirCard 790s is capable of download speeds of up to 300mbps, simultaneous dual-band WiFi for ultimate flexibility and performance.

The unit basically has a sim card in which Super fast 4G LTE and 3G speeds worldwide. Unlocked for use with SIMs in Europe, South-East Asia, Middle East. The router is unlocked, normally, it will automatically identify and connect the operator's network. But in some cases, the carrier/network is not automatically connected, then you need to configure the APN settings.

There are currently only two providers I know of which offers unlimited 4g data over the mobile network.
One of them Giffgaff.com.

Giffgaff.com offer is on a pay monthly deal which is a good deal as prices start at £6 upto £25. you would proberly need to look at the £10 and above packages.
£25 offers unlimited data, texts and calls Speed restrictions do apply on the always on data. After 40 GB of data used.
They use the 02 network so the coverage is very good. You could if you wish take your old phone number with you if you want.

My point for this article was to show that even in the middle of nowhere you can still upload your pictures to what ever medium you use. So the AirCard 790s is a great addition for anyone and not just photographers.
