Model release forms can worth their weight in gold and help stop any unpleasentness later on. When we say model release most people think of the normal model release form used when taking pictures of models, however there are a couple of other times you will need to have release form signed. 1. Model release. 2. Minor release eg photographing minors. 3. Property release is used for buildings or other type of property. Just because you have taken a photograph does not mean you can use that photo in any way you like. Models have certain rights to control the use of their image. Details will vary from one country to another depending on national legislation, although the general rule seems to be to protect a person against defamatory or offensive use of their image. If you are thinking about selling or distributing your images which include people, then it is worth getting the subjects to sign a model release form as this will protect you against any comeback later on. Some stock libraries require you upload release forms.
