Linux ‘bash’ vulnerability

 

Problem identified:

A serious vulnerability has been identified in ‘bash’ a software component of Linux. This vulnerability leaves the application open to code injections, allowing a hacker to remotely control of affected systems.

 

 

How will the problem be addressed:

Managed application users may not be at such a high risk, however users who host Linux on their own machines could be affected. Some managed hosting solutions may be at risk if the users have installed the affected software.  Manufactures have not yet released patches to address this vulnerability but when they do most hosting companies will apply these patches to all potentially affected servers within their control as a precaution. Those managed hosting customers who have opted out of automated patching are advised to apply the patches to affected software, most hosting companies can offer advice and assistance with this if required.
